About CDMH

Welcome to the official website of Croydon & District Masonic Halls the home of Freemasonry in Croydon. On behalf of the Chairman, Directors and Members, we extend a warm welcome to our website which we hope you will find fascinating and enlightening. We hope it provides you with a greater insight into our involvement within the community and the many activities both masonic and non-masonic which are frequently enjoyed by so many different people.

Freemasonry can trace its origins to the local fraternities of Stonemasons. It’s one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political and charitable organisations. The degrees of Freemasonry retain the three grades of medieval craft guilds, those of Apprentice, Fellowcraft and Master Mason. There are additional degrees, which vary with locality and jurisdiction, and are usually administered by different bodies than the craft degrees.Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry.

Freemasonry means different things to each member that joins. For some, it’s about the charitable aspect of the organisation and the making of new friends and acquaintances. But for most, it is an enjoyable hobby. It instils in its member’s the moral and ethical approach to life: its values are based on integrity, kindness, honesty and fairness. Members are urged to regard the interests of the family as paramount but, importantly, Freemasonry also teaches concern for people, care for the less fortunate and help for those in need.
